The city
A promenade on the bay, and the TT.
Douglas faces east across its bay, with a long promenade of terraced hotels between the harbour and the cliffs at Onchan. Horse-drawn trams still work the seafront in summer, and a small castle-like refuge stands on the rocks in the bay, built for shipwrecked sailors.
For two weeks around the turn of May and June the town belongs to the TT. In 2027 qualifying begins on Monday 31 May and the Senior TT closes the meeting on Saturday 12 June; book rooms and aircraft parking early. The rest of the summer is calmer, with the longest, sunniest days in May and June.
- The promenade Two miles of seafront terraces, with horse trams running along it in the summer.
- Tower of Refuge A small stone tower on Conister Rock in Douglas Bay, built as a shelter for sailors.
- TT Grandstand On Glencrutchery Road, where the riders start and finish each lap of the Mountain Course.
