The hotel
Next door to the Grande Bretagne.
King George opened in 1930 on Syntagma Square, next door to the Hotel Grande Bretagne. Like its larger neighbour it belongs to The Luxury Collection, and it is Greek-owned. Across the square stands the Parliament. The hotel has 102 rooms, and Marilyn Monroe and Madonna are among the guests it has received. It is the smaller of the two, with about a third as many rooms.
The lobby is lined in marble and hung with contemporary Greek art, including Constantinos Valaes's Golden Olive Trees. Tudor Hall, on the seventh floor, looks across the rooftops to the Acropolis. Above it, the ninth floor is a single two-bedroom penthouse with an outdoor pool of its own, the only pool in the building. Breakfast is served in Tudor Hall too, with strapatsada, eggs scrambled with tomato and feta, on the menu.
- Tudor Hall Modern cooking with Greek roots on the seventh floor, one MICHELIN star and a wine list recognised by Wine Spectator.
- The penthouse The whole ninth floor, two bedrooms and a terrace with a private pool facing the Acropolis.
- Grande Bretagne next door Guests use the pools and spa of the Grande Bretagne, and can join wine tastings in its Wine Library.
