The hotel
From ministry to hotel.
The building on Mitropoleos Street once housed Greece's Ministry of Education. Electra Hotels, a Greek group that opened its first hotel on nearby Ermou Street in 1965, converted it into a five-star hotel and opened it in 2016. An atrium runs up through the middle of the building. It is the group's newest hotel in Athens; others stand in Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Kefalonia.
Syntagma Square and the Parliament are at the top of the street, and Mitropoleos runs down past the cathedral towards Monastiraki. From the tenth floor the view takes in the Acropolis. Rooms are fitted with wooden floors and soundproofed windows, a help on one of the busiest streets in the centre. Sizes run from 18 square metres for a single to 48 for the Acropolis Suites.
- Pool on the roof An open-air pool on the tenth floor, open in the warm months, with the Acropolis across the rooftops.
- Metropolis Roof Garden The restaurant on the roof serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with M Bar alongside.
- Spa downstairs A heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room and hammam, with treatments by the Aegeo Spas team.
