The hotel

A dancer's hotel off Nyhavn.

Alexander Kølpin was a ballet dancer in Denmark before he went into hotels. In 2017 he took an 1869 building on Tordenskjoldsgade, two townhouses joined into one, and had the London studio Lind + Almond redesign it. In the 1970s and 1980s the site had been a meeting place for the city's cultural crowd.

Hotel Sanders opened in November 2017 with fifty-four rooms. The design mixes Parisian polish, English eccentricity and Danish restraint, with details taken from Kølpin's years on stage and on tour. Nyhavn and Amalienborg Palace are a short walk away, and the street itself is a calm side road in the old centre.

  • Sanders Rooftop A conservatory and terrace above the tiled roofs of the old town, used most in summer.
  • TATA A small cocktail bar with a vintage feel.
  • Coupé rooms Single rooms laid out like compartments on an old sleeper train, for one guest travelling alone.
