The hotel

A gallery on the water.

Igor Savitsky studied the life of the Karakalpaks and collected the art of the Soviet avant-garde, and his collection became the basis of the art museum he founded at Nukus. Soviet Uzbekistan named him an Honoured Art Worker. The hotel that carries his name stands on the rowing canal of Silk Road Samarkand, the new resort district east of the old city.

The building opens like a half-open book. A large painting greets guests at the door, reproductions hang in the lobby and the rooms, and a chandelier of lamps shaped like framed pictures fills the central hall up to the ninth floor. Carpets and furniture pick up avant-garde motifs. Every room has a balcony or terrace facing the canal.

  • The art Reproductions from the Savitsky collection throughout the hotel, and a chandelier of picture-shaped lamps rising through the central hall.
  • Khmelnov The hotel restaurant brews its own beer, and the bar fills up in the evenings; booking a table is wise.
  • Silk Road Samarkand Walks along the canal, the Eternal City with its restaurants, and a congress centre within the complex.
