The hotel
Built for the summit year.
The hotel opened in 2022 as the Samarkand Regency Amir Temur, named after the conqueror buried in the Gur-e-Amir. It was one of eight hotels in Silk Road Samarkand, a 212-hectare complex on the rowing canal that the president opened on 23 August 2022, a few weeks before the city hosted the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The complex was planned as a resort of its own on the edge of the city, with wellness hotels to the south.
At the time it had 234 rooms over 22 floors, including two presidential suites, and was the only member of The Leading Hotels of the World in Central Asia. In February 2024 it reopened under the Hilton name. Around it the complex has a congress hall, the Eternal City, whose design draws on a Sogdian fresco from Afrasiab, and seven more hotels.
