The hotel

Named for the astronomer king.

Mirzo Ulugbek, Amir Temur's grandson, ruled Samarkand in the fifteenth century and built an observatory on Kuhak hill, where he fixed the positions of 1,018 stars and worked out the length of the sidereal year. The hotel takes his name. It stands in Silk Road Samarkand, the resort built on the eastern side of the city around a rowing canal, which hosted the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in September 2022.

Minyoun Hospitality runs it next door to its five-star Silk Road by Minyoun, and pitches the younger hotel at active travellers who want a stylish room at a lower rate. It has one restaurant, a tea bar in the lobby, two conference rooms and a fitness centre. The spas, the Eternal City quarter and boats on the canals are shared across the complex.

  • Tea Station The lobby bar, serving a wide choice of teas through the day.
  • Spas next door Two spa centres in the complex, with Valmont and Thalgo treatments, a sauna and a hammam.
  • The Eternal City A historical and ethnographic quarter inside the complex, with Uzbek and international restaurants and boats for hire on the canals.
