The hotel

The first Reserve in Japan.

Higashiyama opened in December 2020 as the fifth Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the world and the first in Japan, owned by YTL Hotels. It stands at the base of Mount Niseko Annupuri in Niseko Village, one of the four ski areas of Niseko United, with Mount Yotei across the valley. Nearly ten metres of snow fall here in a winter, and guests ski straight from the door.

There are only fifty rooms and suites. Polished marble, cedar and flame-brushed granite carry a design built on the old proverb kachou fuugetsu, flower, bird, wind and moon. Each guest has a personal host. In summer the slopes turn to hiking, cycling and riding, and two golf courses lie close by. Mornings start with bread and pastry at Yukibana, and evenings end by the fire in the Ume Lounge.

  • Ski in, ski out Skis go on at the door for the runs of Niseko Village, with the rest of Niseko United and its backcountry beyond.
  • Hot springs Indoor and outdoor onsen fed by natural hot springs, a private onsen to book, and three treatment rooms at Spa Chasi La Sothys among the gardens.
  • Sushi Nagi An omakase sushi counter with its own bar, one of three places to eat and drink.

Rooms & suites

Every room has floor-to-ceiling windows on Mount Yotei or Mount Annupuri, and a soaking tub in the manner of an onsen.
