The city
The lagoon, the pines and the courses.
Quinta do Lago is a private estate on the edge of the Ria Formosa, the lagoon and dune system that runs along the coast east and west of Faro. Pines shade the roads, villas sit back from them, and a long wooden footbridge crosses the water to the beach. The resort has been here for more than fifty years, and the lake, the golf and the beach still sit together as one piece.
There are three courses. The South once hosted the Portuguese Open, the North was redesigned by Paul McGinley and Beau Welling, and Laranjal is known for its rolling fairways. The Campus adds a high-performance centre with tennis, padel, a pool and a cycling base. Gusto, Heinz Beck's restaurant at the Conrad, holds a MICHELIN star. May to October gives highs of 22 to 28 °C and very little rain; July and August barely see a shower.
