The city
Spring in Andalusia.
Seville sits inland on the Guadalquivir, far enough from the coast to be one of the hottest cities in Europe in summer. It was the port of the Indies, and the money built the cathedral, the palaces of Santa Cruz and, in 1929, the pavilions of the Ibero-American Exposition along the park, the Alfonso XIII among them.
Come in spring. March to June runs from 20 to 31 °C with little rain; Holy Week and the Feria fall in that window, and the orange trees flower in March. July and August pass 35 °C and the city empties after lunch. October, at 26 °C, is the second season.
Arriving
Ten kilometres from the Giralda.
Seville airport lies about ten kilometres east of the centre, with a single 3,360-metre runway shared with the Airbus plant beside it. It handled nine million passengers in 2024.
