The hotel

Glass and timber at Hanazono.

Park Hyatt opened here on 20 January 2020, at the base of the Hanazono ski area, one of the four on Mount Annupuri. The building has a glass facade and is entered through a stark porte-cochère and a lobby hung like a gallery. Every room has floor-to-ceiling windows, facing either Mount Yotei or the Annupuri range. A ski valet takes your skis at the door, and the runs are a few steps away.

Rooms begin at about 65 square metres, our conversion, with a living room and a dining table for four behind a glass screen in the shoji manner. Nine suites have their own onsen. Hot-spring water also fills the public baths. In summer the snow gives way to hiking, canoeing, cycling and golf at the Hanazono Golf Club. Next door, in the residences, Molière Montagne cooks Hokkaido produce for Hiroshi Nakamichi, chef of Molière in Sapporo.

  • On the snow Ski-in, ski-out on the Hanazono runs, with a ski valet, rental, lockers and a ski school in the hotel.
  • Onsen and spa A public onsen on natural hot-spring water, six treatment rooms, two of them for couples with a private onsen, and ICOR treatments made with spring water from Mount Yotei.
  • A 25-metre pool Indoors, with a health club and a kids' club for younger guests.
