The hotel
Hotel Rome, Hotel Riga, Kempinski.
A hotel has stood on this corner of Aspazijas bulvāris since 1878. It opened as the Hotel Rome, the only hotel in Riga at the time with electric light and telephones. The building was destroyed in the Second World War and rebuilt as the Hotel Riga. Decades later the whole building was renovated, and its street number, 22, gave the new rooftop restaurant its name.
It reopened as the Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga at the end of November 2017. The neoclassical front faces the Latvian National Opera across the boulevard, and the Old Town is a few minutes' walk away. Inside are 100 rooms, 41 suites and 23 residences, a ballroom for three hundred, and on the eighth floor Stage22. Down in the basement, the spa holds a sixteen-metre pool, saunas and a steam bath.
