The hotel
The balcony on the Aegean.
Imerovigli runs along the rim of the caldera between Fira and Oia, and Chromata sits at the top of it. The hotel calls the spot the balcony on the Aegean. The view takes in 180 degrees of cliff, sea and volcano, and the sun goes down directly in front of the terraces. Fira, the capital, is about five minutes away by car.
The hotel belongs to the Katikies group, alongside Katikies Santorini in Oia and Katikies Garden in Fira. Inside, the rooms are done in pale monochrome against the white Cycladic shell. In 2023 the group reopened its restaurant, Koukoumavlos, with the Michelin-starred chef Ettore Botrini in charge. He cooks a tasting menu of four courses, and a Master of Wine draws up the list.
