The hotel
A family and its cave houses.
Since the 1980s the Chaidemenos family has been turning the old cave dwellings of the Oia cliff into rooms for guests, and Canaves Oia Suites belongs to the Canaves Collection they built that way. The houses are dug into the volcanic rock above the caldera, now with whitewashed walls, curved arches and finishes in wood, stone and glass.
The suites are open plan, with large terraces; most have a private plunge pool, and at the top of the range the pool has an infinity edge. The spa sits in a cave the family dates to the 17th century, and Petra, the restaurant, sits on a spot the MICHELIN Guide counts among the island's finest for the sunset.
- Petra Fine dining on the clifftop with the caldera below, and a Panorama Balcony for a private dinner.
- A spa in the rock Treatments in a grotto spa set in a 17th-century cave.
- Pools A shared infinity pool, and private pools in most suites, one of them inside a cave.
