The hotel

At the southern end of the caldera.

Most caldera hotels crowd the northern villages of Fira, Imerovigli and Oia. Astarte Suites sits at the other end of the crescent, on the cliff by the small village of Akrotiri, where the suites look across the water to the volcano. The Bronze Age town buried by the eruption, also called Akrotiri, lies close by.

The hotel is small: fifteen suites built into the cliff, each with a private terrace and a king bed, and a heated jacuzzi or a pool of its own. Below them an infinity pool faces the caldera, with Alali, the restaurant and bar, beside it. The hotel opens from April to October.

  • The volcano in view Every suite faces the caldera and the volcanic islands at its centre, seen from the southern side.
  • Infinity pool A shared pool on the cliff edge, with Alali, the restaurant and bar, alongside.
  • A car on call The hotel runs a car service around the island, useful this far from Fira and Oia.
