The hotel

A settlement of sea captains' houses.

Aigialos is a cluster of houses built in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, once owned by Santorini's seafaring families. They sit on the rim of the caldera, and some rooms are cut straight into the rock. In 2009 master masons restored the whole group in local volcanic stone, with cobbled paths still running between the doors. The settlement is a member of Historic Hotels of Europe.

The houses stand at the southern end of Fira, a short walk from the town's restaurants and bars, with the caldera and the volcano directly below. Each of the fifteen residences takes its name from one of the Anemoi, the wind gods of ancient Greece. Inside are antique pieces, marble bathrooms and a private terrace or balcony facing the sunset.

  • Breakfast on your terrace Served à la carte on your own terrace above the caldera.
  • Sunset in Room service at sundown, with wine from the hotel's cellar, around the clock if needed.
  • Into Fira on foot The centre of the island capital is a short walk away.
