The hotel
Four generations of Gambardellas.
Dr Giuseppe Gambardella opened the hotel in 1904 with six rooms, on a hillside west of Amalfi where his family had already kept a small inn. Each generation since has added to it, and the fourth now runs the house. Rooms still hold family furniture from the early twentieth century and Vietri ceramics. Many guests come back year after year, a habit the hotel says is handed down from one generation to the next.
The building sits high above the sea, with olive trees and lemon groves on the terraces around it. A lift runs down through the cliff to the beach club, where a salt-water pool sits beside the water. Some of the suites stand apart in the gardens, two of them with heated infinity pools, and Casa Marchesa, a short walk away, adds a dozen more rooms and a long lap pool.
- The beach club Kept for hotel guests, reached by lift, with a salt-water pool, sun loungers and direct access to the sea.
- Glicine The restaurant on the cliff terrace, which holds one MICHELIN star in the 2026 Italian guide.
- Into Amalfi The centre of Amalfi is a short distance along the coast road.
