The hotel
A villa by the harbour.
The house was built before 1878 as Villa Bovaro and was taking guests before 1885. As the Hotel Continental it drew mostly English and American visitors, and an 1899 guide praised its private path down to the beach. The Wolcott-Perry sisters stayed in 1897 before buying their own villa. After the First World War it became the Hotel Métropole, run by the Canale family.
Works in the late 1980s, when it was renamed Hotel Palatium, uncovered Roman cisterns and part of a Roman road under the building. Today it belongs to J.K. Place, the Florentine group founded by Ori Kafri and his father Jonathan in 2003. Michele Bonan did the interiors: pale colours, patterned wallpaper, and sea views from most of the rooms. A few rooms look up at Monte Solaro instead.
- By the water The hotel sits on the cliff over Marina Grande, a short way from the port, one of the few on Capri this close to the sea.
- Shuttle to the Piazzetta A free shuttle runs from 7 am to midnight between the harbour, the hotel and the main square.
- Spa and gym Treatments at the J.K. Spa draw on Mediterranean traditions, and the gym is fitted with Technogym machines.

Getting there
Flying to Amalfi.
Naples International is about twenty minutes by car from the Naples ports, and the hydrofoil from Molo Beverello takes about fifty minutes; allow around an hour and a half door to door, our estimate. Private jets also land at Naples. A helicopter from there reaches Damecuta, in Anacapri, in about twenty minutes, then a taxi takes about twenty more to the hotel.
