The hotel
Qui si sana: here one heals.
In 1845 George Sidney Clark, an English doctor from Liverpool, opened a clinic on Capri for patients with lung disease and called it La Villa Quisisana. By 1861 it had become a hotel. The German novelist Friedrich Spielhagen later gave the name to a novel. Oscar Wilde, Ernest Hemingway and the steel magnate Friedrich Alfred Krupp all stayed, and so, much later, did Gerald Ford.
The Morgano family took over the management in 1981. They descend from Donna Lucia Morgano, whose café Zum Kater Hiddigeigei was a meeting place on the island in the early twentieth century. The hotel joined The Leading Hotels of the World in 1986. It stands on Via Camerelle, Capri's shopping street, a short walk from the Piazzetta, and has an Art Nouveau theatre of its own.
- In the centre The Piazzetta is a few minutes on foot. Central Capri is closed to cars, so staff meet guests at the port and bring the luggage up.
- Pools and spa Pools with a whirlpool, a sauna and Turkish bath, a gym, beauty treatments and a tennis court.
- Quisi Bar One of the island's long-standing bars, for aperitivo, brunch and champagne, with a pianist in the evening.
