The hotel
Monet's view of the Grand Canal.
Three of the five palazzi, Tiepolo, Barozzi and Regina, opened together in 1895 as the Grand Hotel Britannia, the year of the first Venice Biennale. It was later known as the Europa & Regina. Claude Monet stayed in the autumn of 1908 and painted the light on the canal; his wife Alice wrote that the view was the finest in Venice.
After two years of work the building reopened in 2019 as the third St. Regis in Italy. The London studio Sagrada did the interiors, with public rooms that nod to Carlo Scarpa and glass made with Murano workshops. The hotel claims the longest water frontage in the city, at the mouth of the Grand Canal facing Punta della Dogana, four minutes on foot from Piazza San Marco.
- The garden A private garden on the Grand Canal, where drinks from the bar come out on a spritz trolley.
- Arts Bar Cocktails drawn from works of art, jazz in the evening and a terrace over the water.
- Valmont Spa The hotel spa works with the Swiss house Valmont, and there is a gym with Technogym equipment.
