The hotel
Two hotels and a symphony.
The Hotel d'Angleterre opened on the Riva in 1853, and the Hotel Beau Rivage went up a few metres away in 1865. In 1900 they were joined by a narrow section four windows wide, and you can still feel the join in a step along each corridor. Tchaikovsky stayed at the Beau Rivage in December 1877, working on his Fourth Symphony, and thought of calling it Do Leoni after the stone lions outside.
The name Londra Palace dates from 1973. The Babini family has owned the hotel since 1938, and in 2024 it reopened after a refurbishment by Studio Ruberti Cutillo, which made fewer, larger rooms. Three suites carry the names of past guests: Borges, Jules Verne and Tchaikovsky. On the lagoon side the windows look straight across the water to San Giorgio Maggiore, and the roof terrace, L'Altana, sees in every direction.
- L'Altana The roof terrace, kept for hotel guests, with views in every direction over the lagoon and the city.
- LPV on the Riva The restaurant and bistro have an outdoor terrace that the MICHELIN Guide counts among the most remarkable places to eat in Venice.
- Named suites The Tchaikovsky, Jules Verne and Borges suites recall three guests from the hotel's past.

Getting there
Flying to Venice.
Venice Marco Polo takes scheduled flights and private jets, and its general aviation terminal has its own water-taxi docks. A water taxi to the Riva degli Schiavoni takes about thirty minutes, our estimate. Treviso is the alternative airport for jets, about thirty minutes from the lagoon by road.
