The hotel
The youngest island in the lagoon.
Isola delle Rose was made in 1870, which Marriott says makes it the youngest island in the Venetian lagoon. For about a century it held a clinic, and in 1980 a Capuchin friar, Padre Policarpo, kept its plants and rose beds. Nineteen buildings from the 1920s still stand on it, spread across sixteen hectares of park in the Laguna di San Marco, a short boat ride from St Mark's.
The Italian architect Matteo Thun turned those buildings into a resort, which opened in 2015. Rooms, suites and private houses are spread across the island's park, with a century-old olive grove, gardens and lawns between them. Boats run to St Mark's from morning until close to midnight, so dinner in the city is easy to arrange. Back on the island there are pools, a spa, padel courts and a cooking school.
- The rooftop pool An infinity pool on the roof for guests aged sixteen and over, open in season, with St Mark's bell tower across the water.
- Space for children A family pool in the park, a Kids Club on request and padel and boules courts.
- The shuttle boat A free boat to the Giardini Reali pier by St Mark's, from 08:30 to 23:30.
