The hotel
Plaka, with the Acropolis above.
Electra Hotels opened its first hotel on Ermou Street in 1965, and in 1973 completed this one a few streets away, on Navarchou Nikodimou in Plaka. The hotel describes its architecture as local with eclectic classical touches, and calls itself neoclassical. Behind the street front lies an internal garden, where the restaurant zohós now sets its tables. The group still runs the hotel, alongside others in Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Kefalonia.
Plaka is the old quarter on the north and east slopes of the Acropolis, and much of it is closed to cars. The hotel sits at its edge, a short walk from Syntagma Square. Superior rooms and the suites look up at the Parthenon, and so does the outdoor pool. A second pool indoors stays open all year, and the roof garden restaurant on the eighth floor serves from lunch until after midnight.
- Pool with a view An outdoor pool with the Acropolis in front, open in season, and a second pool indoors for the rest of the year. Both are for hotel guests only.
- zohós in the garden Creative Greek cooking served as mezes in the hotel's garden, listed in the MICHELIN Guide.
- Electra Roof Garden Mediterranean dinner on the eighth floor, open from lunchtime to after midnight.
