The hotel
Back to being a hotel.
The building went up on Syntagma Square in the late 1950s, in the Athenian modern style of the time, and opened as a hotel. Later it became the headquarters of a financial institution, until Lampsa Hellenic Hotels, its present owner, returned it to hotel use. Lampsa renovated the building and brought in Accor's MGallery collection to run it, a few steps from the Parliament and the Changing of the Guard.
It reopened on 1 September 2020 as the first MGallery in Greece, with 177 rooms. Each room has its own look, with Grecian marble and Greek symbols and patterns, and the rooms are soundproofed against the square. Running from the second floor to the tenth is Mappemonde, a sculptural installation by the Greek artist George Lappas, which also gives its name to the bar and pool on the roof.
- Mappemonde on the roof A restaurant, bar and lounge serving sushi and grills beside an infinity pool, with the Acropolis across the rooftops.
- George Lappas His Mappemonde installation climbs through nine floors of the building, from the second to the tenth.
