The hotel
A 1950s hideaway on the cape.
Abelardo Rodríguez, son of a Mexican president, opened Palmilla in the 1950s with his wife, the actress Lucille Bremer. It had fifteen rooms and no road worth the name, so guests came by private plane or by yacht. Bing Crosby, John Wayne, Lucille Ball and President Eisenhower were among the early names in the register.
The resort became One&Only Palmilla in 2004, after a refurbishment the group put at 90 million dollars. The white walls, tiled roofs and old bell tower stayed. It now has rooms and suites facing the Sea of Cortez, two four-bedroom villas, a 27-hole golf course by Jack Nicklaus and one of the few beaches on the cape that is calm enough to swim from.
- A beach you can swim from Much of the Los Cabos coast is too rough for swimming. Palmilla's beach is calmer, with snorkelling, kayaks and paddleboards.
- Hoshi in the bell tower A Japanese omakase counter of 28 seats, set inside the resort's historic bell tower.
- Golf by Jack Nicklaus The 27 holes of the Palmilla Golf Club look out over the ocean, with lessons on site.
