The hotel
The first Thompson in Mexico.
Thompson Hotels opened The Cape in June 2015, the brand's first hotel in Mexico. It stands at kilometre five of the coast road, on Monuments Beach, with El Arco across the bay. Javier Sánchez of the Mexico City studio JSa drew it as a run of open terraces, so that every room looks out over the water from its own outdoor space.
Inside, Marisabel Gómez Vázquez mixed timber walls, leather headboards and hand-painted tile floors, and set copper-bottomed tubs in the bathrooms. A whale made of driftwood greets guests in the public rooms. The chef Enrique Olvera oversees Manta, the main restaurant, and the bar on the roof, six storeys up, was the first rooftop lounge in Cabo San Lucas.
- The Roof Top An open-air lounge and garden six storeys above the beach, looking over the town and the Sea of Cortez towards the Arch.
- Two pools A freshwater infinity pool with a swim-up bar, and a saltwater pool built into the natural rock of the point.
- Currents spa Seven treatment rooms, a steam room, a sauna, hot and cold plunge pools, and two cabanas outdoors facing the sea.
