The hotel
A sculpture you can sleep in.
Carrie and Alex Vik built Playa Vik on a rise above Playa Mansa with the Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott. The main building is called The Sculpture: curved titanium, glass, concrete and warm timber, opening wide towards the Atlantic. You walk in through a monumental bronze door made by Pablo Atchugarry. Behind it, six casitas stand with grass roofs and private gardens of their own.
Every room was built around a work commissioned for it, and South American artists filled the four suites in The Sculpture. There is a light installation by James Turrell and paintings by Anselm Kiefer. In front of it all, a black granite pool of about 23 metres reaches out towards the sea, lit at night with fibre-optic points laid out as a star map.
- The pool Heated black granite, cantilevered towards the ocean and lit at night with a fibre-optic star map.
- Fire and fish Lunch at Azur cooked over open fire, and a fish barbecue every Friday evening with Vik wines.
- On the water Surf lessons and paddleboards from the beach, and a sunset picnic on La Mansa.
