The hotel

Three houses and an aqueduct.

Casa San Agustín opened in the summer of 2012, made from three houses on Calle de la Universidad in the walled city. The builders kept what they found. Part of an aqueduct some three hundred years old crosses the courtyard, and the pool was cut so swimmers can pass beneath it. Stone gargoyles and the old wooden beams stayed in place.

The houses face each other across a courtyard planted with palms, with daybeds in the shaded lounges for the hottest hours. Kelley McRorie did the interiors. The hotel belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World, and in 2026 the MICHELIN Guide raised it from one Key to two. A terrace on the third floor looks over the rooftops, and the hotel keeps a private beach out on the island of Barú.

  • The courtyard pool A pool among the palms that passes under the arches of the old aqueduct.
  • Acasi Beach The hotel's own beach on the island of Barú, for a day out of the city.
  • Aurum Spa The hotel's own spa, for an hour out of the heat of the walled city.
