The hotel
Named for the tin barons.
Stannum is Latin for tin, a nod to the tin barons who once made their homes in this part of La Paz. The hotel opened in December 2012 on the twelfth floor of the Multicine tower on Avenida Arce, above a complex of cinemas, shops and restaurants. The district is Sopocachi, and the city centre is about ten minutes away. Guests can use the gym in the mall below.
The Colombian designer Norah Quintero chose dark wood floors, silver and white leather, and landscapes by the Bolivian photographer Marcelo Pérez. From one side of the building the rooms face the city; from the other they look across to Illimani, the mountain that stands over La Paz. Drinks are served at two heights, in Ignis Doce on the twelfth floor and Ignis Cinco on the fifth, and Terra cooks Bolivian and international dishes all day.
- Illimani from bed The King Mountain View rooms face the mountains, with Illimani in the window.
- Two bars Ignis Doce on the hotel's own floor and Ignis Cinco on the fifth, one for each end of the evening.
- Spa A small spa with a sauna and massage rooms, useful after a long flight and the climb to altitude.
