The hotel

An old lodge, made over.

The Sundays stands where Allamanda Lodge and the Outrigger restaurant used to be, one of the original hotels on Hamilton Island. The owners spent about thirty-five million Australian dollars turning it into a hotel of fifty-nine rooms, and it opened in April 2025, the first new hotel on the island since qualia in 2007. The island's owners built it as a small hotel for families, with its own pool and a private stretch of beach.

The Whitsunday designer Carrie Williams kept the bones of the old building and dressed it in soft pastels, sandy tones and carved stone. Artworks by Tiarna Herczeg, of First Nations and Hungarian descent, take their colours from the islands around it. Every room looks out over the gardens or the Coral Sea, and a boardwalk leads down to the beach.

  • Catseye Pool Club Josh and Julie Niland's restaurant and bar by the pool, with seafood from Bowen and cocktails by Sam Cocks. Lunch and dinner are open to everyone.
  • Catseye Beach Kayaks, paddleboards and small sailing boats on the beach in front, included for guests.
  • For families Trundle beds, kitchenettes and blackout blinds in the rooms, films under the stars, and a free ice cream every afternoon for children.

Rooms & suites

A balcony or a lawn.

All fifty-nine rooms face the gardens or the Coral Sea, most of them with the bed turned towards the view.

  • Upstairs Sundays Balcony Room A balcony over the gardens or the Coral Sea, the bed turned to face it.
  • Ground floor Sundays Terrace Room A terrace that steps onto a lawn, which suits small children.
  • For families Family Connect Rooms Larger rooms that interconnect, for families who need more space.
