The hotel

A railway château on the ski slope.

The Chateau opened in 1989 at the foot of Blackcomb, drawn in the tradition of the railway hotels of Western Canada. Inside, heavy wooden beams cross the lobby. In 1997 it added more bedrooms, a ballroom and a rooftop garden terrace, and the spa was enlarged; it now runs as Vida Spa. Today the hotel counts 519 rooms and belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World.

Its golf course, laid out by Robert Trent Jones Jr., was named Best New Canadian Course by Golf Digest in 1993. In 2024 the MICHELIN Guide gave the hotel two Keys in its first Canadian selection, praising its design and its sense of place. Whistler Village is about five minutes away on foot, and in winter guests ski in and out at the door.

Getting there

Flying to Whistler.

Every flight lands at Vancouver International. The drive up the Sea to Sky Highway takes about two hours, longer in snow. Private jets clear customs at one of the private terminals at YVR, and the drive north starts from there.
