The hotel

A monastery, a village and the tunnels below.

Argos stands on the remains of a monastery and the village around it, on the slope beneath Uçhisar Castle. Restoration began in 1996 and lasted fourteen years. The old stone houses were rebuilt as rooms, each one a different shape, with vaulted ceilings, rough-hewn blocks and, in most, a fireplace. The view runs over Pigeon Valley to the snow on Mount Erciyes.

During the work the owners found a network of tunnels under the hill. It now holds the wine cellar, meeting rooms and Bezirhane, a rock-cut hall about two thousand years old that once served monks, Silk Road caravans and a linseed oil press. Concerts are held there today, and the cellar next door holds close to 22,000 bottles. The hotel belongs to Doğuş Hospitality & Retail.

  • Bezirhane The ancient underground hall, used for concerts and private dinners, with acoustics to match.
  • The cellar Close to 22,000 bottles in a cave, including wine from the hotel's own Kalecik Karası vineyard.
  • Argos Spa Cut into the rock, with an indoor pool, a hammam, a sauna and a yoga studio. Outside, an infinity pool hangs over the valley.
