The hotel

A collector's house on Castle Hill.

The hotel was made from ruins at the summit of Uçhisar: caves and stone houses that had served as homes, stables, kitchens and storerooms from the Hittites to the Ottomans. The district is named after the Tekeli, a Turkmen clan who brought the Akhal-Teke horse to the region. There are 34 rooms in all, cut into caves or built in stone. In 2013 the restoration won International Hotel Awards for both architecture and renovation.

Ömer Tosun, chairman of Indigo Group and a collector, filled it with his own pieces. Hittite, Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman objects stand in the rooms, many of them catalogued by the Nevşehir Museum, alongside old tapestries, thick rugs and gilt mirrors. Hence the name. From the terraces the view takes in Pigeon Valley, White Valley and Mount Erciyes, and Lil'a, the restaurant, is listed in the MICHELIN Guide.

  • A living museum Registered antiques in every room, from the owner's collection. Guests sleep among them.
  • The pool A heated outdoor pool on the edge of the hill, looking over the valleys.
  • Lil'a Ottoman and Turkish cooking with produce from the hotel's organic garden, served on a terrace over Pigeon Valley.
