The hotel
A hotel in the rebuilt old centre.
Msheireb Downtown is the district rebuilt beside Souq Waqif, which the MICHELIN Guide calls the design-focused heart of the city. Mandarin Oriental opened here in March 2019, the group's first hotel in the Middle East, on Barahat Msheireb Street, behind a sleek façade. The souq, the Corniche and the old trading streets are all close, and Hamad International is about twenty minutes away by car.
David Collins Studio did the interiors. The MICHELIN inspectors single out the arabesque patterns and the hand-blown chandeliers in the rooms. There are 117 rooms, 41 suites and 91 serviced apartments, a spa of more than 3,000 square metres and a pool on the roof, which the guide names the best place in the city to watch the sunset. Nine restaurants and bars were planned at the start.
- The roof The rooftop pool looks out over the skyline, and the MICHELIN inspectors rate it the best sunset spot in Doha.
- The spa More than 3,000 square metres, with six treatment rooms, a couple's suite, two VIP suites and heat and water rooms.
- Liang Cantonese cooking and dim sum under executive chef Thomas Fong Chin Fan. The name means moonlight in Chinese.
