The hotel
Two swords on the Lusail shore.
The Katara Towers rise 211 metres over the water on the Lusail Marina Promenade, two curved blades that cross like the scimitars on Qatar's national emblem. Dar Al-Handasah designed them, building began in 2014, and both hotels inside opened in 2022, in time for the FIFA World Cup. Raffles Doha takes one tower and Fairmont the other, with Accor running the pair. Each tower has forty floors.
For the tournament the Fairmont was kept for World Cup guests and delegations, and opened to the public once it ended. Its 270 rooms and 92 suites borrow from the fittings of a yacht, with gold mosaic and wood panelling, and most have a terrace. The colour throughout is white, and the windows face either the Gulf or the towers of Lusail.
- Fairmont Gold A floor kept apart for its own guests, which Fairmont calls a hotel within the hotel.
- Dôme The lobby lounge, known for its Parisian afternoon tea and pastries, with a sun terrace over the Gulf.
- For families A kids' club, indoor and outdoor pools and a spa. Children of all ages are welcome, and under-sixes stay free in an existing bed.
