The hotel
An island of its own off Manama.
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the firm behind the Burj Khalifa, drew the master plan for Bahrain Bay and this tower at its centre. It rises 200 metres and 68 storeys from a man-made island of five hectares, standing on two concrete piers in the shape of an H. A bronze porte-cochère twelve metres high cuts through the base to form the lobby.
The hotel opened in March 2015. Pierre-Yves Rochon designed the interiors after the ocean liners of the 1930s and Bahraini art. A short bridge joins the island to Manama, and the National Museum and the Al-Fateh Grand Mosque are close by.
- The beach A 160-metre strip of white sand on the island's southern shore, with kayaks and paddleboards, cabanas and a beach club.
- The spa About 3,485 square metres in four connected buildings with gardens, seventeen treatment rooms, a salt room, an indoor pool and a women-only area.
- The Dhow A waterpark for children with seven slides, beside a kids' club for ages four to twelve.
