The hotel

The telephone exchange of Józsefváros.

The building dates from 1910 and was designed by Rezső Ray. Early in the twentieth century it held what the hotel calls the largest telecommunications centre in Central and Eastern Europe. The hotel's name comes from the Hungarian word for communications. It is a protected building, and its main staircase, lined with Zsolnay tiles, is said to be the second longest in Hungary after the one in Parliament.

Spanish owners brought in the Catalan studio GCA Architects, who started work in 2017 and spent three years on the conversion, keeping the façade reliefs and the staircase. The hotel opened in September 2020, and the MICHELIN Guide gave it a Key in its 2026 Hungary selection. Inside, the rooms have stucco and herringbone parquet, and the walls carry photographs by Carlos Cánovas and frescoes by Lluís Lleó.

  • Two pools The spa has one pool for swimming and one for relaxing, with a sauna, a steam room and three treatment rooms.
  • The staircase Hungary's second longest, under a painted coffered ceiling, leading up to the rooms and the restaurant.
  • Suites with terraces The Presidential Suite has its own terrace and covers 190 square metres; Junior Suite 42 has a terrace, a library and a fireplace.
