The hotel

Red awnings on the avenue of fashion.

The Plaza Athénée opened on 20 April 1913, and its first manager, Emile Armbruster, chose the name. It stayed open through the First World War. In 1947 Christian Dior set up his couture house next door, and fashion has been the neighbour ever since. The red awnings and the geraniums in the window boxes have been its signature for as long as anyone remembers.

Dorchester Collection has run the hotel since 2001. A refit costing about €200 million ended in August 2014 and added rooms, suites and a ballroom. The building is classically French, apart from the seventh and eighth floors, which are Art Deco. Today there are 154 rooms and 54 suites, a Dior Spa, and three MICHELIN Keys in the 2026 selection.

  • La Grande Table The dining room by Rémi Tessier, a royal table of pink Breccia marble under 20,000 gold leaves, now led by Jocelyn Herland.
  • Le Relais Plaza The Art Deco brasserie of the house, under the same roof as the starred dining room.
  • Dior Spa Opened in 2023 with a light therapy cabin, the first in Europe according to the MICHELIN Guide, plus a sauna, hammam and gym.

Rooms & suites

From a single room to the whole top floor.

The rooms keep the eighteenth-century French style of the house, with Art Deco on the upper floors.

  • Suites Junior to Royal suites 54 suites, rising through the Presidential and Royal categories.
  • Signature suites Eiffel Suite and L'Appartement The two grandest categories listed by the hotel.
