The hotel

A village beside the royal tombs.

Elysium stands on the headland north of Paphos harbour, on a sandy cove next to the Tombs of the Kings, the rock-cut burial chambers now on the UNESCO list. Its builders took the old site as their cue: palatial lines, low houses in the manner of a Cypriot village, and interiors that borrow from Byzantine, Roman, medieval and Venetian Cyprus, in local stone, marble and timber.

In 2002 The Sunday Times nominated it as the best new resort hotel in the world. Stademos Hotels, the owner, has since put ten million euros into the rooms and gardens, with the local architect Eraklis Papachristou. Forty-seven new rooms and suites opened to guests in early 2026, among them twelve adults-only studios inside the colonnaded megaron. Four pools, one of them indoors, and the Opium Health Spa fill out the grounds.

  • Garden Villa Suites New in 2026, each with a patio garden, plenty of daylight and a plunge pool of its own.
  • The megaron Twelve adults-only Studio Suites inside a colonnaded hall, sharing a pool kept for adults.
  • Opium Health Spa ESPA treatments, a hair and beauty salon, a gym, a Pilates studio, a sauna and a steam room.
