The hotel

A Famagusta hotelier starts again.

Alecos Michaelides ran hotels in Famagusta until 1974, when the town was lost in the Turkish invasion. He moved west to Paphos, opened the Paphos Beach Hotel, now Almyra, and then bought the land next door. The main building of Annabelle opened in 1985, with George Thomas, Viscount Tonypandy and former Speaker of the House of Commons, at the ceremony.

The second wing and the grotto followed in 1987, and the waterfall in 1989. After a renovation of ten million euros the hotel reopened in 2018 with a new top floor: the Ouranos lounge, a spa, a gym and an indoor pool facing the sea, along with duplex suites. Three outdoor pools now run through the gardens, among them a lagoon pool and a semi-Olympic one. The family's group, Thanos Hotels, still runs it.

  • The grotto A swim-up bar in the grotto, by the lagoon pool. Two more outdoor pools sit in the gardens.
  • Ouranos The rooftop lounge, with cocktails and sharing plates over the sea, next to the spa and the indoor pool.
  • Byz Bar An adults-only bar that stays lively late into the night.
