The hotel

A sailor's town gets its first four-star.

Le Marin is the yachting harbour of southern Martinique, a bay crowded with masts where the marina holds more than eight hundred boats. Until Sable Bleu opened in 2023, the town had no four-star hotel. The building stands on boulevard Allègre, across the road from the water, about two hundred metres from the old marina and six hundred from the new one.

The architecture keeps the heat out with louvres and lets the light in through floor-to-ceiling windows and a glass ceiling. Some of the furniture was made for the hotel. Pieces of Caribbean art hang along a trail through the corridors. On the roof are a small pool and a bar over the bay, and the restaurant, Le Blue, serves breakfast from six and dinner from five.

  • The rooftop Pool and terrace look over the bay and the moorings. Residents have them to themselves until five in the afternoon.
  • The marina Watersports, mangrove sailing and lessons in the yole, the island's racing boat, all start within walking distance.
  • Caribbean art A trail of works by artists from the region runs through the hotel.
