The hotel
Twelve years in the making.
The plan dates from 2012, when the developer, Lanka Hotels and Residencies, signed with Starwood, then owner of the Sheraton name. The hotel finally opened on 30 December 2023, after an investment of nearly USD 100 million, and Marriott runs it under a thirty-year contract. It was the second Sheraton in Sri Lanka and the first in a city, on the Galle Road in Colombo 03.
WS Atkins, the firm behind the Burj Al Arab, designed the building, and Catallo Associates of Singapore did the interiors. The lobby runs over two levels, the Sheraton Club takes the 19th floor, and the pool and Bayu restaurant sit on the roof. The building holds LEED certification. Gangaramaya Temple and Viharamahadevi Park are within two kilometres, and Independence Memorial Hall is ten minutes by car.
