The hotel
Shangri-La on Galle Face Green.
The President and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka opened the hotel together on 16 November 2017. It stands on about ten acres beside Galle Face Green, part of the One Galle Face development with a shopping mall, residences and an office tower. It was the group's second hotel on the island, after Hambantota on the south coast in 2016, and was billed at the time as the most anticipated hotel launch in the city in nearly thirty years.
Most of the 500 rooms and suites face the ocean, and 41 serviced apartments with kitchens sit alongside. Rooms start at 42 square metres. The Horizon Club fills the top three floors, with its lounge on the 32nd. Below, the main ballroom covers 1,580 square metres without a single pillar, and seats 1,500 at a banquet. A second, the Lotus Ballroom, and a lawn outside take the event space past 3,500 square metres.

Flying to Colombo.
