The hotel
Ten years on Negombo beach.
Aitken Spence, the group behind the Heritance hotels, opened this one in April 2016 on six and a half acres of beachfront along Lewis Place. The building gained LEED certification a month before the first guests arrived, and Sri Lanka Tourism classified it five-star later that year. It now holds LEED Gold and Travelife Gold, and in 2025 it cut its carbon emissions per room night by five per cent. The general manager, Ranjan Stanislaus, counts many returning guests.
In November 2023 the hotel took the Sentido name under a franchise with DER Touristik, the first Sentido hotel in Sri Lanka. Negombo is a fishing town with a long seafood habit, and the kitchens lean on it. Iguana Cantina, opened in December 2025, was the first Mexican restaurant in town. The Muthurajawela wetlands and the old Dutch fort are a short drive away.
