The hotel
A hotel made of courtyard houses.
Mandarin Oriental Qianmen opened on 3 September 2024, the group's second hotel in Beijing. It is laid out across forty-two courtyard houses in the old hutong lanes of Qianmen, in Dongcheng. The hotel calls each one a courtyard house, and the MICHELIN Guide counts forty-two rooms. The hotel sits on the Central Axis, the line that runs from the Forbidden City south past Qianmen to the Temple of Heaven.
The artist Xu Bing designed the hotel's fan, written in his Square Character Calligraphy, in which Latin letters are built into shapes that read like Chinese characters. It carries the words "Unveil Beijing's Soul" in ink. In 2026 the MICHELIN Guide gave the hotel three Keys, and Forbes Travel Guide rates it Five-Star. It is the only hotel in Beijing with three Keys.
- Tea in a courtyard Maple Lounge serves tea in a hutong courtyard, and the spa has a tea house of its own.
- Qiyuan Healing Space Part of the spa, given over to the spiritual, alongside private treatment suites and a fitness centre.
- On the Central Axis The Forbidden City, the Qianmen gate and the Temple of Heaven are all close by on foot or a short drive.

Getting there
Flying to Beijing.
Beijing has two international airports. Capital International lies 32 kilometres north-east of the centre and Daxing 46 kilometres south; from Qianmen, allow 45 minutes to an hour to either, our estimate. Both take private jets, and which suits depends on the aircraft and the slots.
- Seoul 1 h 35
- Shanghai 1 h 45
- Hong Kong 2 h 55
- Singapore 6 h 15
- Paris 11 h 10 long-range jet
Questions
What guests ask first.
- How many MICHELIN Keys does Mandarin Oriental Qianmen have?
- Three, in the 2026 selection. It is the only hotel in Beijing with three Keys.
- What is a courtyard house?
- A traditional Beijing home built around an open courtyard and set in the hutong lanes. The hotel is made up of forty-two of them.
- Which airport is better for Mandarin Oriental Qianmen?
- Both work. Qianmen lies south of the centre, which puts Daxing within easy reach, and Capital is a similar drive, our estimate. Which suits depends on flight times and, for private jets, on slots.
- Can SkyCourtage arrange the flight to Beijing?
- Yes. We arrange Business and First Class seats on scheduled airlines and private jet charter to Beijing, with one final price, our margin included. The hotel is booked with the hotel or through our booking partner.
