The hotel
The grand dame of Angkor.
The hotel opened in 1932 for the travellers and archaeologists who came to see Angkor Wat, and it was the first hotel of its kind in Siem Reap. Its colonial façade and Art Deco furniture belong to that decade. Charlie Chaplin and Jackie Kennedy are among the guests it names. A permanent exhibition of photographs, films and drawings follows a century of Angkor.
Raffles took it over, restored it and added two wings built in the old style. In 2019 a six-month restoration renewed all the rooms and suites, while the teak and wrought iron cage lift stayed in place. Around the buildings lie fifteen acres of French gardens, with a lap pool of thirty-five metres at their centre. In 2026 the MICHELIN Guide gave the hotel one Key.
- The pool Thirty-five metres long, set in the inner gardens and visible from some of the bathrooms.
- Elephant Bar The hotel's bar, pouring Sipsmith's Raffles 1915 Gin.
- Raffles Spa Massages, targeted treatments and sauna, with yoga and tai chi in an outdoor pavilion.
