The hotel
One journey, five valleys.
Aman received permission to operate in Bhutan in 2004, and Amankora Paro was the first international hotel to open in the kingdom. Today there are five lodges, spread across the valleys of western and central Bhutan from Paro to Bumthang, so that a stay can become a journey from one to the next, ending with a flight from Bumthang back to Paro. Every lodge has its own spa and makes a base for treks and jeep trips.
Each lodge follows the country's rammed-earth building tradition, finished inside in Aman's spare style with terrazzo bathrooms and wood-burning stoves. The Paro lodge sits in pine forest near Kuenga Chhoeling Palace. Thimphu is built like a dzong, Punakha is reached over a suspension bridge, and Gangtey looks across the Phobjikha Valley to its monastery. The suites hold no extra beds, and the lodges reopened in September 2026 after a summer of renovation.
- Paro Twenty-four suites in pine forest, a two-storey spa and a glass-walled yoga studio, a short drive from the trail to Tiger's Nest.
- Punakha and Gangtey A suspension bridge over the river to orchards and rice paddies in Punakha; eight suites on a forested knoll above the Phobjikha Valley at Gangtey.
- Treks and excursions Every lodge has a spa and makes a base for walks, treks and jeep trips into the valley around it.
