The hotel
A sultan's garden by the walls.
The gardens came first. In the eighteenth century Sultan Sidi Mohammed gave this land by the walls to his son, Moulay Mamoun, and the hotel takes his name. The architects Henri Prost and Antoine Marchisio built the hotel in the 1920s. Churchill wrote to his wife in 1935 that it was a wonderful place, and Chaplin and Hitchcock came too.
Jacques Garcia reworked the interiors, and the hotel reopened in September 2009 after three years shut. A second renovation by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku followed, and the doors opened again on 16 October 2020. Rooms face the Koutoubia, the hotel's own park or the Agdal Gardens, and vegetable beds in the grounds still supply the kitchens of its four restaurants and four bars.
- The gardens Shaded paths through olive, orange and palm trees, with kitchen gardens that send produce to the restaurants.
- Le Churchill A bar of twenty seats named after the hotel's most quoted guest, with a small cinema next door.
- Tea with Pierre Hermé The Salon de Thé runs to Pierre Hermé's menu, and Le Menzeh serves tea out in the gardens.
