The hotel

Ten years in the building.

The Krystal Palace took about ten years to build and cost some sixteen billion CFA francs. Its developer is Samuel Foyou, head of the Foyou group, which calls it the first five-star hotel in the country put up by a private Cameroonian. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute opened it in December 2021, and the press greeted it as the first five-star hotel in Douala.

It stands on the Boulevard de la Liberté in Akwa, the business district of Douala, and employs some six hundred people. A few weeks after it opened, Cameroon hosted the Africa Cup of Nations, and the hotel received official delegations. Its two ministerial suites have private terraces facing the Wouri. Below them are a spa in the basement with a hammam, an outdoor pool and, on the roof, a tennis court.

Getting there

Flying to Douala.

Douala International lies about four kilometres from the centre, roughly twenty minutes from the hotel by car in Douala traffic. Air France flies there non-stop from Paris, and private jets land at the same airport, where handling is compulsory.
