The hotel
Seventy-five years on the boulevard.
The Akwa Palace has stood at number 920 on the Boulevard de la Liberté since 1951, in the centre of Akwa, the busy commercial heart of Douala. The Eko market is close by, and the airport is about six kilometres away. The hotel is older than Cameroon's independence in 1960, and since then the Akwa Palace has been a meeting place for people doing business in Cameroon's largest port.
The building was renovated in 2010, almost sixty years after it opened. Every room and suite now has its own balcony, from the Standard rooms up to the Senior Suite. Outside there is a semi-Olympic pool with a bar at its edge. Seven rooms take meetings and banquets of 18 to 300 people, and there is a spa with a hammam, massage and a gym.
- The pool A semi-Olympic outdoor pool, with a bar and quick meals at the water's edge.
- Le Tournebroche The hotel's French restaurant, cooking in the classic tradition.
- Wellness A spa with hammam and massage, and a fitness room alongside.
